On May 3, 1919, the First Czech-Slovak Sports Club Bratislava was founded. Maybe this name doesn’t mean much to you, but you certainly know the ŠK Slovan Bratislava club. The most famous Slovak sports club was founded 100 years ago under this name. The so-called A centenary is a significant moment in the history of any club or company, and football Slovan is definitely no exception. In 2019, it is not even celebrating “only” the centenary, but also other anniversaries – 50 years since winning the PVP trophy, 80 years since the beginning of the construction of the old Tehelné Pole, but also the return to the new Tehelné Pole after a long 10 years.
The celebration of this anniversary took place on May 11, 2019, during a home match with the club MŠK Žilina. In view of the World Cup in hockey taking place at the same time, the program had to be adapted to the evening duel between Slovakia and Finland. The celebrations started already at lunch, when we launched the program on a large stage with high-quality sound and a large LED screen on the square in front of the Tehelné pole stadium. From the beginning, the atmosphere was completed by a brass band and a rich offer of accompanying activities such as inflatable attractions, Futbox football tournament, facepainting, historical exhibition of club achievements, PSX zone and many other activities.
In addition to all the fans, the congratulators were several player legends who came to congratulate the club on stage, current players, club officials, but also the Ine Kafe and Duchoňovci bands through performances. During the match, there were other legendary congratulators, a huge choreography with the number 100 from the ranks of the youth, shooting of scarves and other accompanying program. One of the goodies of the program was a replica of the PVP trophy from 1969, with which fans could take a photo before the match on the square.
After the match, an interesting program was again prepared in the square – from various competitions, an online quiz, a dance performance by Angels Cheerleaders – which culminated with the arrival of the A-team players. The speeches were followed by the premiere of the new club anthem, the cutting of a huge cake, and the Bratislava band Ine Kafe played at the end.
We wish to Slovan Bratislava all the best for its jubilee anniversary; many victories and we believe that in another 100 years we will meet again for another great celebration!
