We are writing the article retrospectively with a delay of several years, so please forgive us if we got something wrong. Or even better, write to us and we will be happy to correct the information appropriately ☺️

It was in 2013 when Slovak rugby representatives approached us with the task of organising the B-division European Championship in women’s rugby. It was an honour and a great responsibility for us at the same time. From the first moment, we had the opportunity to be right in the centre of the action and thus co-determine the direction of the organisation of the entire event, which suited us very well 👍

Apart from the sports aspect of the tournament, our task was to assure all the rest. Accommodation for participants, sporting facility and venue, transport and overall logistics of not only buses with sports expeditions but also, for example, arrivals of referees from all over the world and supervising delegates from the umbrella organisation FIRA EUROPE (now RUGBY EUROPE). In addition, we were also in charge of their work or leisure program. Our tasks during the organisation of the tournament also included, for example, the logistics of massages for the players, the preparation of rooms for tactical meetings and the coordination of leisure activities of individual rep selections. We also coordinated the security of the entire event and all the expeditions. Under our baton was, for example, the rental of the tournament stadium where the tournament took place, the food of the teams during the sports part, but also the crazy post-tournament after-party with 200 female rugby players 🤪

In addition to the production work itself, when organising an event of such importance, fundraising and communication with the event’s partners could not be missing (but we had to find them ourselves first, and there was quite a number of them) ✌️😎 Media coverage in the form of a billboard campaign and advertising spots could also not be missing. All graphic works from the bulletin, through dozens of partner websites to advertising banners around the venue and various mandatory prescribed signs.

To make it not so easy, the tournament struggled with funding from the beginning, so we had to pull together all the forces and raise the missing funds through grant appeals. Hereby, we thank the Bratislava Self-Governing Region and the Bratislava Municipality for their support. The pearl was that, despite the best efforts, the tournament started with a financial loss of several thousand, but during the course, a funder appeared who covered the missing funds – thank you 👏 Fortunately, we were not alone in all of this, but the responsible persons from Slovak rugby union and the whole community around Slovak rugby. Back then, and even now, it wasn’t just about money… 🙌

12 representative teams were accredited for the tournament: Slovakia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Andorra, Luxembourg, Norway, Finland, Malta, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey. Each representative group consisted of plus or minus 20 people. The security problem was mainly the Israeli expedition, which gave us and the Slovak police a lot of trouble. We could thus experience buses with a police escort passing through intersections in a green wave or searching the entire hotel and vehicles with specially trained dogs.

We also looked for clothes for the representative selection of our women until the last moment. When teams came with brand-name representative equipment, we felt poor. But we managed, even though the equipment didn’t arrive until the day of the tournament when we slowly didn’t even count on it anymore. In the finals, our girls could also run onto the field dressed as they should, for which we thank Mr. Markech from Sportika ❤️

As part of the sports part, the tournament was divided into 2 playing days, which were packed from morning to evening. 6 teams in 2 groups, based on their placement in them, one match was subsequently played for the overall ranking. The Finnish team won the overall tournament, but our girls did not embarrass themselves and finished in 10th place 🏆

Finally, we would like to draw attention to the media outputs that we managed to popularize women’s Slovak rugby. We prepared an advertising spot that ran not only on social networks but also on mainstream television, a billboard campaign around western Slovakia, but also a series of radio spots and advertisements in newspapers and magazines 🙋🏻‍

It was one of the first major events in which our agency had the opportunity to participate and learn. The final report that came from the umbrella organization RUGBY EUROPE (something like football UEFA) was a great satisfaction for us. Based on the evaluation of delegates, referees and individual representative selections – the satisfaction rating with the organization of the tournament was at the level of 9/10 🤗
